BIOGRAPHY

Kate Murphy was born in Dublin but now lives and works in Co. Wexford.  She graduated from the National College of Art & Design in 2000 with an honours degree in Fine Art, Sculpture.  She began to direct her practice solely through painting in 2003 but recently, sculpture and installation have made their way back into her practice. Up until its closure in 2010, Kate was showing her work with Stone Gallery in Dublin, with solo exhibitions there in 2006, 2007 and 2009. 

She was short-listed for the Golden Fleece Award in 2010 and was awarded the first prize Visual Arts Bursary by Wexford County Council in 2009 which supported a solo exhibition in Wexford Arts Centre in 2011.  She had a solo exhibition in Talbot Gallery in Dublin in October 2013. 

Kate was one of five candidates to be awarded a placement on The Living Art Project school's residency 2013/14, and one of eight artists to represent Ireland at Artisterium, Georgia's International Contemporary Art Exhibition 2013.  She is an invited artist at the Boyle Arts Fetival 2014 and will represent Ireland on the Imago Mundi Project.

Kate’s work is in the collection of the Bank of Ireland, The Office of Public Works, Wicklow County Council and in private collections.

Kate is co-founder and director of ArtPanther Studios/Gallery/Shop on John's Gate St., Wexford.
